CBT A2 A1 DAS Insructor Training Advanced Riding

The Riding School

We provide a full range of courses, suited to people of all skill levels. We will asses your skill level and put you on the a course that is right for you, whether you are a complete novice or returning to bikes after a number of years away from riding.

CBT

This is where it all starts. This is a course prescibed by the DSA which you will have to pass before you can ride a motorcycle on public roads. It is a mixture of theory and practical, with the initial traing taking place on our purpose built site. We have motorcycles for hire and we can provide protective clothing free of charge. Follow the link here to our page describing the course in more detail.

A2 LICENCE

Training and testing on a bike of 120-125cc with a power output of 14.6bhp, or less will qualify the rider for a full A2 licence. This will allow him/her to ride motorcycles up to 33bhp/25KW for a period of two years. After two years any motorcycle can be ridden. Power output is not always directly related to engine size, so please consult your motorcycle dealer for advice on what bikes you may ride with this licence.

A1 LICENCE

Training and testing on a bike 75-125cc with a top speed under 100km/h allows the rider a full licence for bikes up to 125cc/14.6bhp. This is aimed at riders who are only interested in commuting on small bikes. The training structure and cost are the same as for the A2 licence.

DIRECT ACCESS SCHEME(DAS)

From 1st January 1997 the direct access scheme has allowed riders aged 21 and over to learn on motorcycles over 125cc. The bike used for the test must be at least 46.6bhp(35KW). Our price has be calculated on the basis that the final two days of a DAS course are done on our 500cc bike, with the remaining day(s) done on a 500cc bike. For example a three day course would involve doing the CBT on a 125cc bike on day one, converting onto the 500cc bike on day 2, and a lesson with a test in the afternoon on day 3, also on the 500cc. If you wish to spend more time on a bigger bike, please call us for a quote. Before you can do your practical test, you must pass the DSA Theory Test for which we give training at our site in Portobello. Click here to go to our page on the theory test

Once you have a little experience after passing your DAS, you can return and do Advanced rider training with John, who has a ROSPA Gold Award and has NAAMI (National Association of Advanced Motorcycle Instructors) certification to teach Advanced Motorcycling.

We are are now also providing courses for people wanting to become Instructors.
