Enhanced Rider Scheme

We are currently the only training body able to offer the ENHANCED RIDER SCHEME (ERS) assessment in the Edinburgh area.

The ERS was recently relaunched by the DVSA and in keeping with modern client centred learning principles it start with a short assessment session, typically 90 minutes ( 49.00). If you demonstrate the skills required, thats it, you will get your certificate emailed out to you, and will be eligible for insurance dicounts. Should any areas require work we can offer 1 to 1 tuition on an hourly rate, a full day of advanced riding or a half day session depending on your needs and availability.

The 7 core modules in the ERS scheme are as follows:-

  • structured planned approach to riding
  • defensive riding/ hazard awareness
  • progress/ use of speed
  • overtaking and filtering
  • bends and cornering
  • slow control
  • developing the correct attitude

    Advanced Motorcycle Training

All advanced courses are based on the five point system I-P-S-G-A outlined in ' Motorcycle Roadcraft the police rider's handbook'

The RoSPA gold award is the highest riding qualification available to the public..

Our advanced courses are conducted by John Underwood, who holds a RoSPA diploma in advanced riding instruction, and is on the new register of post test motorcycle trainers (RPMT). Please call or e-mail to discuss your requirements.

    Advanced Riding Qualifications

Like the motorcycle test, we can provide the training, but someone else will test you. Should you choose to take an advanced riding test, both RoSPA and the IAM offer motorcycle tests in the Edinburgh area. We would recommend the RoSPA test as this offers written feedback, a grading system and is currently cheaper than the IAM test.

    Post Pass and Refresher courses

We are able to offer courses on 125cc, 700cc (restricted) and 700cc (unrestricted) motorcycles or your own motorcycle for riders who hold a full licence.

These courses are suitable for riders who passed their test some time ago, are returning to motorcycling after a long time, or are upgrading to a big bike for the first time.
