About Us - City School of MotorCycling

City School of Motorcycling was founded in March 2000 By John Underwood and Patricia Barrett & is probably the best known motorcycle training school in Edinburgh.

John Underwood:

John has been riding motorcycles for more than 25 years and has been an instructor for 18 years starting in 1990 teaching and assessing the old Part1 test before the introduction of CBT on 1st December 1990. John is qualified to teach CBT and Direct Access to DSA test standard and holds the RoSPA national diploma in Advanced Motorcycle Instruction as well as an ACU coach licence for Moto-cross. John has passed the advanced riding tests with both IAM and RoSPA. He also holds a RoSPA diploma and John is now registered with the DSA as an approved post test trainer.

John's hobbies are bikes and more bikes and he mechanic’s for Danny Warwick speedway rider who he sponsors, and also for Tero Aarnio a young Finnish rider who is riding for the Berwick bandits.

Patricia Barrett:

Patricia has been riding bikes for over 20 years and was a Police motorcyclist. She loves all forms of motorcycling and has been instructing since 1992 she holds a CBT1 card and is qualified to teach DAS, Patricia has a basic moto-cross coaching certificate and like John she sponsors speedway in various ways.

All our Instructors are fully qualified and enthusiastic motorcyclists. Between us we will be able to answer any questions you may have about bikes, training even bike holidays.
